Charles Jourdain, MMA athlete

Since last September, we have been proudly sponsoring Charles Jourdain, the athlete from MMA. He works out daily in our premises and benefits from the best nutrition service customised by our healthcare professionals. On this occasion, we asked one of our bloggers to meet Charles and write an article.

I had the opportunity to meet the young athlete from MMA, Charles Air Jourdain, at the Asportek fitness center located in Belœil, which is his main sponsor. Due to being accustomed to a busy schedule, Charles arrived at our appointment on time and even before time. I immediately realized that my interlocutor was not only on time because he had a commitment, but because he was disciplined and very organized.

Charles Jourdain is not only very sympathetic, he is also very generous with his time. I wish to emphasize that he never refused to answer my questions and, more importantly, he did so voluntarily. Despite the fact that he is 21 years, Charles is probably one of the most mature and confident people I have had the chance to discuss with.

Charles tells me that he started training at a cardio kickboxing center at the age of 15, with his younger brother Louis. What was at the very beginning just curiosity quickly, turned into a serious passion: "The first time I fought, I was picturing myself as already representing Quebec and as being the best athlete in my sporting discipline”, he said, looking at me straight in the eye. Charles discovers his talent for Thai boxing and comes to the attention of Éric Bertrand, who then mentors him more seriously at Prostar MMA in Mont-Saint-Hilaire.

At the very beginning of his career, Charles is considered an arrogant: “It is destabilizing to see a young man winning bouts against older fighters, more again with his brother. People quickly learned to know me and understood that I am humble and very serious in what I do.” Charles attracted the curiosity of many people and made a name, thanks to his amateur record of 8 victories and 2 defeats and his incredible talent.

Just a year ago, Charles became an MMA professional. During a bout, he did an impressive flying knee. Telling me this anecdote, he smiles proudly: "That's where the Air in my name comes from, I got that nickname because of this. "

Charles has a strict and fixed routine: “The week begins on Monday and ends on Saturday. On Sundays, I let my body rest so as for it to regenerate. The rest of the time, I exercise myself 2 to 3 times a day.” When he tells me this, I am so surprised that I wonder how he does: “Certainly, it is difficult, but I want to be a war machine. If I get hurt, I go on - that's all. My kinesiologist, Jonathan Roy, takes good care of me. Moreover, I have a very limited number of acquaintances, if you enter my life, you are there to stay. I stay away from parties, drugs and alcohol. My main focus is my art and physical training, I love reading anything concerning my sporting discipline so as to be mentally prepared. It keeps me grounded and enables me to progress in what I do best: fight. "

As a professional, Charles has thus far achieved a record of 5 wins and no losses. At the end of my interview with him, I asked what his favorite quote to which he refers on a daily basis was. Charles takes barely a few seconds to think and still looks me in the eye, he then answers with Takuan Soho’s words: "When the mind is nowhere, it is everywhere", to which I totally agreed.

Charles Air Jourdain's next bout will take place on December 8, 2017, at Centre Bell. A blogpost will be posted on Asportek's social networks to reveal the name of his official opponent, as well as details on his physical preparation before an MMA bout.

Stay tuned!
